Upper back pain from lifting weights?
July 29, 2008 1:00 am Upper Back Painasian.reaper asked:
I have been lifting weights for around six months now. I am a 16 year old male, 5′8 and 140 lbs. I have been experiencing EXTREME upper back pains. One of the bones/disks on my spine hurts to the touch and I am getting a cramp-like feeling in the muscles on my back. This pain has been going on for about a month, and I stopped lifting for a while and it went away. I started again and it hurts like hell. I do NOT want to stop lifting weights because I am taking creatine and I don’t want to “deflate.” Someone please give me some suggestions.

There’s almost no doubt that you are lifting too much weight. Also, are you CONSTANTLY doing the same exercises? If you are you need to stop. You shouldn’t work the same muscle group over and over without 24 hours of rest. You ESPECIALLY shouldn’t with too much weight. Also, you probably screwed up something in your back from lifting, go get some X-Rays and see a Chiropractor. Also, at 16, you shouldn’t be taking creatine as you are still growing. It should tell you right on the label, don’t take if you are under the age of 18.

Well, you may have to choose between stopping and hurting yourself permanently. You need to consult a physician before you continue lifting. If you damage your back (disks, etc) you will likely suffer for the rest of your life. It’s not worth taking the risk, and you may find out that the doctor says it’s going to be ok.
