Hi! I’m in physical therapy for a back injury. I’ve had 4 courses of physical therapy before this, but it’s always just been working out and then a TENS unit; this time I’m having deep tissue massage and ultrasound, which is essentially just heat, so when my doctor knows that heat makes me feel 10X worse, I don’t know why he wrote a prescription for that. I have brachial plexus neuralgia too, so this pain is now radiating down my arms and I have no strength (can’t lift my arms more than an inch off my sides)… and before I got that done yesterday, I could move them a good 6-8 inches. I also have a pounding headache and I’m typing w/ one finger right now because I can’t move my hands.

I’m allergic to a LOT of medications, but what I have at home that I’m not allergic to is: Zanaflex 8mg (a muscle relaxer for spinal cord injuries), Darvocet (mild narcotic), and then plain old Motrin. Which would be most effective for the type of problems I’m having? Thank you!

I would start with Motrin and take a lukewarm bath or shower. Then see how you feel. :) Try a bath with Epsom Salt in it.

If that doesn’t work, I’d try the Darvocet next. Try to relax, the stress only makes it worse.

Also, I have heard that if you out your back at a 135 degree angle, it takes the pressure off of your spine.

    Good luck! :)

Mostly likely, you are having an inflammatory response…therefore an anti-inflammatory seems most logical (Mortrin)…however, you may also use cold packs…a bad of ice wrapped in a towel placed on the affected area for 5-10 minutes every couple hours, up to 3 or 4 times a day.

For people with chronic back pain with neurological features, it is common to have an adverse inflammatory response to massage and ultrasound.

Try the Darvocet and a pint of Vodka- if that doesn’t work go buy some heroin!!!!!

ibuprofen or any ns aid! its reduces inflammation that causes swelling. the heat is prescribed for nerve inflammation and pulls blood nutrients into the area to help heal. if your weather changed, it can cause flare ups.

    good luck.
